Army early warning satellites to start migration to new floor system

Lockheed Martin will begin the method of migrating a SBIRS geosynchronous satellite tv for pc to the next-generation Enterprise Floor System

WASHINGTON — Lockheed Martin introduced Sept. 16 it obtained a $51.2 million contract to start integrating U.S. missile warning satellites with a brand new floor system that’s being developed to command and management all navy satellites sooner or later.

Underneath the contract from the U.S. Area Pressure’s Area and Missile Methods Heart, Lockheed Martin will begin the method of migrating a Area-Based mostly Infrared System (SBIRS) geosynchronous satellite tv for pc to the next-generation Enterprise Floor System, often called EGS.

EGS shall be a standard command-and-control structure that shall be used to fly all navy satellites sooner or later so the Area Pressure doesn’t need to develop a brand new floor system each time it introduces a brand new satellite tv for pc.

Lockheed Martin stated the transition of a SBIRS satellite tv for pc to the brand new floor system will function a “pathfinder” for the migration of three Subsequent Technology Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) satellites that the corporate is creating and are projected to begin launching as early as 2025.

Individually from the EGS program, the Area Pressure is creating a brand new floor system to gather and course of information from missile warning satellites, known as Future Operationally Resilient Floor Evolution, or FORGE.

The Subsequent Gen OPIR satellites shall be flown by a Lockheed Martin-developed system known as NIO-F (Subsequent Gen Interim Operations – FORGE) that shall be used till EGS and FORGE are operational.
